SMART solutions to challenges facing Bahrain’s infrastructure planning and sustainability plans will be showcased at a major summit on smart cities next week.
The fourth edition of the Bahrain Smart Cities Summit will tackle issues such as sustainable energy and intelligent energy savings, intelligent systems for real estate solutions, government and private initiatives for smart cities and smart city waste management, as well as smart financial applications in fintech and blockchain.

It will be held on Sunday and Monday and will feature panel discussions and interactive research papers from leading experts from around the world, along with discussions on ‘Smart Cities Framework for Bahrain’ and ‘Designing Sustainable Communities’.
Organised by Smart Way Consulting, the two-day summit will be held at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel under the patronage of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf.
“The challenges of building a sustainable smart city are immense, and will require collaborative, innovative thinking from all sectors of society,” according to the summit’s website.
“We know there are substantial opportunities to build inclusive, sustainable smart economies through business leadership and partnerships – and we also know that we won’t achieve these goals unless we think big, and think bold.”
Among the topics to be discussed are smart and green buildings, along with using innovation in sustainability for future projects in Bahrain.
Six panel discussions will be held at the event and around 14 working papers on the implications of sustainable energy in smart cities will be presented.
The summit will also feature an exhibition by 25 government and private organisations which will showcase new smart solutions for issues facing Bahrain, with awards being given out to the best projects presented under six categories.
The categories for the Bahrain Smart Cities Summit Awards are smart financial solutions; smart solutions for the real estate sector; smart solutions for smart cities; smart solutions for waste management; best smart cities project at the government level; and an open category for new innovations in the smart cities sector.
“Sessions will be held over two days with the participation of more than 250 experts and specialists in the cities sector in Bahrain in more than six panel discussions and approximately 14 working papers on the implications of sustainable energy in smart cities,” said organisers in a statement.
“The summit will be accompanied by an exhibition featuring 25 government and private sectors, showcasing the latest smart city solutions and applications at the local and international levels, participants are expected to present new solutions in Bahrain.
“The winners of the Bahrain Smart Cities Summit Awards will be announced at the opening ceremony which includes six categories.”
Solutions
The summit will feature participants from its knowledge partners such as Bahrain University, Supreme Council for Environment, the Sustainable Energy Centre, and Charles Russell Speechlys law firm.
There will also be representatives from professional associations in Bahrain such as the Bahrain Smart Cities Association, the Bahrain Internet Society and the Technology and Business Association.
