Security challenges due to Iran and its terrorist organisations and networks pose serious threats to international navigation safety and energy security, said Bahrain’s Ambassador to the US Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, citing the latest attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities.
He was speaking at the United Against Nuclear Iran summit on the sidelines of UN General Assembly meetings in New York.
Bahrain has, over the past four decades, stood against the Iranian regime’s hegemonic ambitions and its fake claims and deceptive approaches, including declarations made by Iranian officials in violation of Islamic and international principles, namely good neigbourliness, non-interference in internal affairs and respect of countries’ sovereignty in addition to support for extremism and terrorist organisations by providing funds, training and equipment, he said.
He pointed out the threats posed by Iran’s nuclear programme and dangerous strategic and geo-political repercussions should the regime possess nuclear weapons, urging the international community to put an end to such plans.
Iran’s nuclear programme remains a dangerous threat to environmental security in the Arabian Gulf region for technologies used are old and backward, he said.
