Al Ahli defeated East Riffa 3-1 in a third week match of the Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League at Bahrain National Stadium last night.
East Riffa opened the scoring in the 30th minute through Luis, but Al Ahli recovered from the setback quickly and converted a penalty in the 39th minute to draw level. They scored again in the 42nd minute to lead the first half 2-1.
Al Ahli extended their lead in the 66th minute.
Mahdi Homaidan scored twice for the winners and Arnest netted once.
Al Ahli, who have won the Premier League five times, are second in the standings with six points from three matches. They had earlier defeated Al Shabab 4-0 and gone down 0-1 to Al Hidd.
East Riffa are sixth with three points after winning 2-1 against Busaiteen and losing 0-1 to Al Hidd.
Earlier, Al Hidd held Al Najma to a 1-1 draw in the first match of the last night, played at the same venue.
Al Najma’s Ali Madan scored in the 15th minute of the game to lead 1-0 in the first half of the third week match played at Bahrain National Stadium.
Al Hidd’s Mohammed Fares netted the equaliser in the 76th minute.
Hidd, who lifted the trophy in the 2015-16 season, are on top of the standings with seven points from three games.
They defeated East Riffa and Al Ahli with an identical score of 1-0.
Najma are third with four points after last night’s match. They earlier won 4-1 against Al Hala and lost 0-1 to Al Shabab last week.
Manama take on Al Hala at 6pm at Bahrain National Stadium tonight. In the second match of the night, Muharraq face Al Shabab at Muharraq Stadium starting 8.30pm.
In the Second Division League on Monday, Al Bahrain eased past Al Ittihad 3-1, while Malkiya Club edged out Al Budaiya 1-0.
