Bahrain is home away from home for many expatriates including me.
The freedom that we enjoy here is very high when compared with other countries. All forms of festivals are celebrated here, irrespective of caste and religion. We have seen the festival of Kerala, Onam, being celebrated during the past years. But this year’s Onam celebrations at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam have been an unforgettable experience for all those who have witnessed the one-month-long programmes.
Having started the celebrations with “Palaharamela”, a huge crowd thronged the BKS premises which increased day by day till the end and it was massive during the finale.
No wonder, it is because of the quality of the programmes, that these people came down to Samajam and went back fully satisfied.
A huge entrance gate which was temporarily made inside the Samajam premises has invited the attention of all those who have come there.
We are thankful to the organisers for giving us the opportunity to see the traditional Kinnamkali and Thiruvathira along with variety cultural programmes. It was a great opportunity for the expat community to see and hear many dignitaries and celebrities from their place.
The Onasadhya which was served with 32 dishes, prepared under the supervision of the well renowned chef from Kerala Pazhayidam Mohan Namboodiri, again has recorded a turnout of around 5,000 people.
It is yet another success story and a feather in the cap of the executive committee of BKS led by president P V Radhakrishna Pillai and secretary M P Raghu.
I would like to congratulate them and also the Onam organising committee for putting up a good show.
