HOW we all smirked when Theresa May declared that running through a wheatfield was the naughtiest thing she could recall from her younger years. Thanks to a tiny number of Britain’s Conservative Party members, we are now treated to the sleazy and tacky past of the current premier.
It all makes me nostalgic for the class and sophistication of Mrs May.
The ghastly scenes in the Commons would also never have happened with her still in the post. The drastic decline in civility in the House started during the referendum campaign, and I shuddered at some of the rudeness allowed to go unchallenged by the speaker over the past couple of years, especially directed at Mrs May.
I think the rot is irreversible, and will become the norm.
