MANAMA: A new international campaign to promote Bahrain as a top tourist destination is being launched.
Brand Bahrain will focus on the country’s heritage, culture, business-friendly environment and artistic talent.
The project is being spearheaded by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) in co-ordination with the Economic Development Board.
“We will share with the world Bahrain’s stories, messages from people and the identity of our country,” said BTEA acting chief executive Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa.
“The first phase of the project is over and the soft launch will be held during the Bahrain Formula One in April,” he told the GDN.
Brand Bahrain will have a distinctive visual identity that will captivate audiences globally and strengthen the kingdom’s position as a top tourist destination, he said.
“We are also working with a creative agency in the UK, called M&C Saatchi, on the project.”
He was speaking on the sidelines of a meeting organised by Skal International Bahrain in which he outlined plans to boost the tourism sector.
Revenues from tourism reached BD288 million in 2014, when more than 10m people visited Bahrain – including 6.6m GCC visitors.
The total contribution of the travel and tourism industry to Bahrain’s gross domestic product is forecast to surge from $3.97 billion in 2011 to $6.16bn by 2021, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council.
