Bahrain Television aired an interview with the United Nations Resident Co-ordinator alongside David Steward, chairman of the FW de Klerk Foundation.
The subject of discussion was the successful campaign of Bahrain Vision Forum (BVF), which took place in New York along with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) gathering, and Bahrain’s contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 originating from its own experience.
BVF has demonstrated Bahrain’s commitment to help the international community achieve the SDGs by focusing on the human values required to implement them. The SDGs are expected to be the cornerstone of future stability, security and prosperity.
Amin Al Sharkawi congratulated His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa on the recognition of his initiative, by all the member states of the UN, which led to the declaration of April 5 as International Day of Conscience.
Bahrain is a role model for countries in the region, said Mr Al Sharkawi and mentioned the example; where following the 2018 BVF campaign in New York, the Premier urged parliament to implement the outcomes in its Action Plan, allocated necessary funds, and intensified social services for society.
Mr Al Sharkawi stressed that by adopting the SDGs, Bahrain is able to attract foreign direct investment as it gives confidence to investors.
Mr Steward pointed out that Bahrain has effectively implemented the SDGs agenda and the approval of April 5 as International Day of Conscience at the proposal of the Primer is a great accolade for Bahrain.
He stressed that at the heart of right action is conscience and appreciated Bahrain’s co-operation with international organisations in promoting human values to achieve the SDGs by 2030.
Every year, starting 2020, April 5 will be celebrated as International Day of Conscience. However, thanks to our Premier, Bahrain is the owner of the day and we expect to have a double celebration. By implementing the values embedded in human conscience to achieve the SDGs, the Premier has contributed greatly to humanity.
