BAHRAIN were beaten by 275 runs by the UAE in the opening match of the ACC Under-16 Western Region Cricket Tournament in Muscat yesterday.
Opting to bat first, the UAE batsmen ran riot scoring at a brisk pace against a toothless Bahrain bowling attack.
Opener Rudra Mahadev was in a punishing mood as he raced to 141 off 93 balls (14 fours, 4 sixes) while Kai Smith (30), Chris Sequeira (38) and Aayan Afzal Khan (39) were the other main contributors.
Wajahat Rehman, Fazeel Ahmed, Rishabh Ramesh, Hamza Riaz, Ansh Kattayan and Haniel Asir Robert picked a wicket each for Bahrain.
The Bahrainis also conceded 34 runs in extras, including 27 wides.
In reply, Bahrain were bundled out for 36 in just 17.4 overs as the UAE bowlers Annant Bhargava and Adithya Shetty proved too hot claiming our wickets each while Jash Giyanani accounted for the other two wickets.
Bahrain began disastrously losing their first wicket with no run on the board and were five down for 13 runs by the ninth over.
No. 8 Haniel (11) was the only batsman to reach double figures.
In another match, Saudi Arabia beat Iran by 70 runs.
Batting first, Saudi Arabia reached 173 for six in 35 overs and Iran in reply were bowled out for 103 in 24 overs.
The Bahrain team is in Group ‘A’ along with Saudi Arabia, UAE and Iran while Group ‘B’ consists of hosts Oman, Qatar, Maldives and Kuwait.
Bahrain take on Saudi Arabia tomorrow and Iran on Friday.
