GARV Bahl last night ended Matteo Fuschillo’s inspiring run in the 11th Bahrain ITF Junior Tennis Championship at Bahrain Tennis Club in Juffair.
But the second seed Indian had to dig deep to beat the Briton 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-3 and book a spot in the quarter-finals.
The girls top seed Nina Danisova of Slovakia, on the other hand, had a smooth progress into the quarter-finals beating Tanya Nanda of India 6-2, 6-2.
Four of the five remaining seeds in the boys section also progressed into the quarter-finals.
Fourth-seeded Mark Owen Endler of Germany, fifth seed Alexander Knox Jones of Great Britain, number seven seed Luca-Daniel Constantin of Romania and eighth seed Archie Graham, also from Great Britain, moved ahead.
But third seed Vansh Bhagtani of India was upset by Felipe Mikkelsen of Denmark.
The quarter-final line-up was completed by the unseeded British duo of Oliver Richards and Daniel Abernethy.
Bahl faces Graham next, Endler takes on Constantin, Knox Jones confronts Mikkelsen and Richards meets Abernethy.
In the girls section, Danisova advanced into the quarters along with second seed Stefania Bojica of Romania, third seed Rosaleen Alioussef of Russia and fourth seed Hagar Ramadan of Egypt.
But three other seeds fell, including fifth seed Jessica Dhome-Casanova of Great Britain, Caroline Fawzy of Egypt and Nina Vicic of Denmark.
Briton Issey Purser was the eighth player to make it through.
In the quarter-finals, Danisova takes on Egyptian qualifier Jermine Sherif who defeated Dhome-Casanova in the second round. Bojica plays Briton Olivia Rook who beat Fawzy, Alioussef battles another Egyptian qualifier in Mariam Atia who ousted Vicic, and Ramadan faces Purser.
Meanwhile, all three seeded pairs in the boys’ doubles made it through to the semi-finals. But that was not the case in the girls’ doubles, as the top three seeded pairings were eliminated.
