Atkins, a leading design, engineering and project management consultancy and a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, has appointed Edward McIntosh as the new regional design director for the Middle East.
Based in the UAE, McIntosh will focus on expanding Atkins’ design and architecture business presence and capitalizing on its regional growth potential.
He has 16 years of experience leading international architectural design teams and projects in sports, commercial, retail, residential, and hospitality markets in South America, UK, China and South East Asia, said a statement from Atkins.
He started his career in Ecuador where he delivered several commercial and hospitality projects incorporating innovative low-carbon construction materials, it stated.
Through this work, he received a Fulbright Scholarship to continue his studies at Columbia University in New York where he graduated with the highest design awards. He then worked for 6 years at Populous in London where he successfully led the design of more than two dozen arena, stadia and sports masterplan projects.
He also led the Grimshaw’s South East Asia design team focusing on retail, hospitality, workplace, transit-oriented development and sports projects.

McIntosh holds a Master’s degree in Architecture, Planning and Preservation, from Colombia University Graduate School of Architecture, New York.
As an industry expert, he has published articles and has given public presentations about architecture, sustainability and society at international design forums and academic organizations.-TradeArabia News Service
