An international security taskforce which aims to safeguard maritime operations was opened today.
Operations of the International Maritime Security Construct (IMSC) was flagged off by the US NAVCENT and the US Navy Fifth Fleet Commander Vice Admiral James Malloy at the US Navy Base in Juffair.
Newly-appointed Commander of the Coalition Task Force Rear Admiral Alvin Hosley joined Vice Admiral Malloy in the ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the opening of Operation Sentinel.
Seven countries, including Bahrain, are part of the IMSC that aims to protect commercial vessels by ensuring the right of freedom of navigation, provide safety for international trade, and protects the interests of allied countries.
It's area of operation covers the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al Mandab, as well as the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Gulf.
