A man accused of stabbing his Bahraini wife and stepson in a frenzied knife attack has been charged with attempted murder.
The 38-year-old Saudi appeared in Bahrain’s High Criminal Court yesterday to plead not guilty.
He was arrested after police were called to a domestic disturbance at the family’s apartment, in Al Luzi, on September 17.
Despite denying a charge of attempted murder, the defendant previously admitted during questioning that he carried out the attack.
He told prosecutors that he did it in a fit of rage after another of his stepsons allegedly told him that his wife was having an affair.
“My stepson sent me a message on WhatsApp telling me that my wife, his mother, was cheating on me with her lawyer,” he said in his statement.
“He said she was having sex with her lawyer at our apartment in Al Luzi.
“I was enraged and immediately came to Bahrain via King Fahad Causeway at 5am.
“I knocked on the door and he (the stepson) gave me black gloves and two knives.
“I wore the gloves and armed myself with the knives, as he told me that my wife was having sex with the lawyer in our bedroom.”
He said he entered his wife’s bedroom and stabbed a man who was lying on the bed, who later turned out to be his other stepson.
“I saw a person sleeping on the bed covered with a blanket,” he said.
“I removed the blanket and stabbed him, but then my stepson (who allegedly let him in) kicked me in the back.
“I heard the person on the bed screaming and calling for his mother, my wife.
“He and his mother then wrestled with me, but I smelled blood and stabbed them.
“I then lost consciousness and fell to the ground.”
The court heard that the stepson on the bed, 23, suffered stab wounds to his neck and abdomen, in addition to losing part of his ear.
Meanwhile, the defendant’s wife suffered knife wounds to her hands and chest.
The Saudi defendant and his Bahraini wife had been married for two years at the time of the incident.
In his statement the stepson who was stabbed, a Bahraini policeman, said he was sleeping when the attack happened.
“I could not believe I was nearly killed while I was sleeping,” he told prosecutors.
“I was sleeping and then I felt a sharp pain in my chest.
“I opened my eyes and saw that my stepfather had stabbed me.
“I was bleeding and got out of bed to resist him.
“I managed to knock out the knife from his hands, but he then took another small knife from his pocket and attempted to slash my neck – but hit my ear instead.
“This resulted in a piece of my ear being cut off.
“He then took the big knife and cut me in my neck, but I did not die because I managed to move out of the way before he could slit my throat.
“I screamed to my mother: ‘Your husband wants to slaughter me.’
“My mother then attempted to defend me, but he (the defendant) stabbed her in her left hand.”
The stepson said he and his mother were able to overpower the defendant and restrain him until police arrived.
“He stabbed my mother in the chest as we wrestled with him,” he added.
“We managed to sit on him and restrain his movement before my mother phoned the police.
“I then called my brother, who came from work to find us in a pool of our own blood.
“I passed out and we were transported to a hospital.”
The trial has been adjourned until November 12 for review.
