Ivestigations are continuing into the discovery of a burned corpse in Bahrain.
The GDN reported yesterday that a body had been discovered near a Shahrakan graveyard on Wednesday.
It was found just metres from the Imam Ali Al Hadi Ma’atam and a sewage facility situated on Dar Kulaib Avenue, which connects Shahrakan village with Roundabout 20 on Shaikh Hamad Avenue.
The unidentified corpse had serious burns to its hands and part of a leg, as well as less severe burns to the rest of the body, according to people who live nearby.
It was found on open ground near the Hamad Town burial mounds by a passer-by, sources previously told the GDN.
People who witnessed police conducting an investigation at the site said yesterday that the victim was believed to be expatriate, but that has not been confirmed.
“We overheard police saying the body was that of a man who was not Bahraini,” said one resident of the area.
“There are rumours that the man was Indian or Bangladeshi, but I seriously doubt if it could be confirmed as the hands and part of a leg were charred, according to people who could see it from far.
“The police cordoned off the area near the mosque as early as 8am until noon (on Wednesday) and we don’t know who saw it first, or who notified police.
“It was not lying on a road. Even people going to the mosque would not walk that way.
“It is an isolated area, except sometimes people come to burn garbage.”
The Interior Ministry on Wednesday said it suspected foul play was involved in the death. Sources told the GDN the case was being treated as a suspected murder. No further details were available yesterday.
