THE story of a young Bahraini girl who travels to fascinating countries using a magical abaya is the premise of a new children’s book written by a Bahrain-based author.
Sara and Her Magic Abaya is the first book by Briton Coryn Middleton who has lived in the kingdom since 1998.
“Having resigned from a 13-year career in real estate in May this year, I had more free time on my hands, and decided to get creative and came up with the idea for a children’s book,” the 46-year-old told the GDN.
“The idea for the book was inspired by my passion for travelling, seeing new places, learning about diverse cultures and traditions.
“Since living in Bahrain, I have had the opportunity to travel a lot more in Asia, Africa and Europe, and have now visited 50 different countries.
“I hope that my book will help young learners get excited about the possibility of seeing interesting new places around the world and inspire the next generation of travellers,” she added.
Being her first endeavour as an author, Ms Middleton hopes that having based the book on a young Bahraini girl, it will appeal to Bahraini families as well as expatriates.
“Sara and Her Magic Abaya is an entertaining story about a young girl who wishes to see far-away lands.
“The young Bahraini girl travels to fascinating countries around the world using a beautiful magical abaya to transport her,” said Ms Middleton.
“She sees amazing sights such as the Taj Mahal in India, the ancient pyramids in Egypt, plus a whole lot more.
“It is a perfect adventure story to teach young children about the wonders of travelling the world.
“It is ideal for children aged four to eight years.”
Ms Middleton said that although becoming an author was “not something I have always aspired to be, however, when I came up with the idea for the storyline, I was excited to be able to share my passion for travel and educate young children about all the captivating and inspiring places there are to see in other countries”.
During her stay in Bahrain for more than 20 years, Ms Middleton has worked in various fields, including teaching young children.
“The most significant would be my 13-year career in real estate.
“I have worked for a couple of top international real estate companies, and I am very proud of the reputation I have earned as an agent,” she said.
“However, this year I decided it was time to take some time out to travel more, write my book and decide what I want to do next.”
Sara and Her Magic Abaya is currently available only on Amazon at BD4.1 and Ms Middleton is hopeful that it will soon be available for purchase at local bookstores.
