HOSTS Bahrain suffered a double blow on the opening day of the GCC Under-14 and Under-18 Tennis Championships at the Bahrain Tennis Federation Courts in Isa Town.
Kuwait, on the other hand, made a strong start winning both their matches.
Bahrain lost to Kuwait 0-3 in the under-14 section and 1-2 to Oman in the under-18 category.
Yaqoob Mohammed and Hussain Al Shati beat Bahrain’s Isa Al Qattan and Jaber Abdul A’al 6-0, 6-2, and 6-1, 6-3 respectively in the first two singles.
In the doubles, Abdul Wahab Al Abdulla and Abdulrazzaq Al Abdulla routed Faras Altubli and Jaber Abdul A’al 6-1, 6-0 to seal victory for Kuwait.
In the under-18 category, Bahrain’s Ali Al Sharif was leading 4-6, 6-2, 4-1 against Azzan Al Hajjari when the latter retired due to an injury.
Muneer Al Rowahi equalised for Oman beating Mohammad Al Khan 6-1, 6-0.
In the doubles, Oman proved too good as Muneer Al Rowahi and Azzan Al Hajjari tamed Ali Al Sharif and Mohammed Al Khan 6-4, 6-1 to seal victory.
In the other under-18 match, Kuwait outplayed Saudi Arabia 3-0.
Badar Al Abdulla beat Abdulla Tawfiq 6-2, 6-0 and Isa Qabazard was equally ruthless in getting past Mohammed Saduddin 6-0, 6-1 in the first two singles.
Fahad Al Dossari and Talal Anthar beat Sulaiman Almuser and Abdulla Tawfiq 6-2, 6-2 in the doubles to make a winning start.
