With vaping-related deaths on the rise worldwide, I’m alarmed to see more and more vape shops opening up here in Bahrain.
Vaping was initially intended for adults who are trying to quit smoking, but it has exploded in popularity among young people. The US surgeon general reported that e-cigarette use among high school students had increased by 900 per cent, and 40pc of young e-cigarette users had never smoked regular tobacco.
Our health ministry needs to make some tough decisions about the regulatory status of e-cigarettes, because ultimately, the health of our children far outweigh any profits the vaping companies make.
