AN expatriate man has committed suicide in a labour accommodation in Sanad.
In the second suicide in four days, the 35-year-old Indian national was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his room at the labour camp yesterday morning.
He was identified as Aneesh Punnakkal from Thurayoor, a village in Kozhikode district in the Indian state of Kerala.
Mr Punnakkal, who has been living in Bahrain for seven years, was working as a driver with Sami Home.
“He was working in our company for the past 12 months, though he has been living in Bahrain for seven years,” the construction company administration manager Roby Abraham, aged 45, told the GDN yesterday.
Mr Punnakkal’s suicide comes six months after his second daughter was born.
His wife, a four-year-old daughter and the newborn live in India.
His roommates, who found him hanging from a ceiling fan in his room, reported the incident to the police.
Mr Abraham said he was shocked when he came to know of Mr Punnakkal’s suicide.
“He was normal and woke up along with his roommates in the morning so they could go to work,” he said.
“His roommates said he was in a normal state and did not look stressed.
“However, when they returned to their accommodation they found that he had hanged himself.
“It is very sad and tragic and we never expected this to happen.”
He said Mr Punnakkal had never complained of any problems or financial issues.
“He worked as a driver in our company and everyone loved him and his personality.
“He never hurt anyone and looked happy; we are all shocked.”

This brings the number of reported suicides in the country to 34 so far this year, of which 22 were of Indian nationals.
This compares with 16 confirmed suicide cases among expatriates in 2017, a figure that rose to 37 last year.
Mr Punnakkal’s suicide comes just four days after another fellow Indian national took his own life.
The GDN reported on Wednesday that a man was found hanging from a truck in an open area next to a road in Demistan on Tuesday.
He is reported to have committed suicide due to financial problems, according to sources.
According to details on the Labour Market Regulatory Authority website, the deceased was 47-year-old Karthikeyan Baskaran who worked as a lorry driver with a building materials company based in Hamad Town.
