A 35-year-old Pakistani man has been jailed by a Dubai court for molesting a tourist at the Dubai Fountain in November. The 19-year-old Malaysian woman was apparently enjoying the watershow during the UAE national day when the accused pressed himself against her.
The accused protested his innocence in court.
However, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted S.A. of molesting the tourist despite his having entered an innocent plea.
The accused will also be deported after serving his sentence.
The woman testified that the incident happened while she was watching the Dubai Fountain display from the bridge between Dubai Mall and Souq Al Bahr. This is when the defendant came from behind, the woman felt she hit him by mistake so she turned around to apologise. She then felt the man firmly press his body against hers. She added that the man behaved indecently and molested her.
Feeling scared the woman tried to walk away but the man pressed even closer to her preventing her from moving away. However, when the woman moved towards her friend, the accused realised that his game was up and he had been found out, he quickly walked away.
A British woman, who was an eyewitness, claimed to have seen the accused squeeze himself behind the tourist. She then notices that the Malaysian woman was crying and upon hearing what had happened, they called the police.
