A MAN attacked his neighbour with a metal bar after trying to run over him over with a car just metres from a police station, a court heard.
The 19-year-old Bahraini victim said he lost two front teeth and was knocked unconscious during the assault in Riffa.
However, the 20-year-old accused of carrying out the attack denied an assault charge as he appeared in the High Criminal Court yesterday.
The victim said he was waiting for bread outside a bakery when the incident happened.
“I was at the bakery, near East Riffa police station, on September 18,” the victim said in his statement to prosecutors.
“A Toyota approached me and I saw three people I knew inside the car.
“I was just getting bread and did not expect to lose my teeth forever and be attacked viciously.
“He (the defendant) attempted to knock me down with the vehicle, but I jumped out of the way.
“He then hit me in the head with a metal bar and I was in severe pain.
“He punched me in the face and I fell on the ground and passed out.
“I was taken to the BDF Hospital and suffered injuries to my head and two of my front teeth fell out.”
A 20-year-old who was with the defendant at the time of the incident said the accused was then involved in another fight just minutes later.
“I did not know that he was going to assault his neighbour,” the witness told prosecutors.
“He punched him and left him on the ground.
“He got back into our car and told us to drop him in another place in Riffa and to pick him up after 10 minutes.
“We then went back to him and saw him fighting (again) and blood on the ground.
“I was shocked. We picked him up and took him home.”
The trial has been adjourned until Monday for review.
