A BAHRAIN resident has retained his world memory championship title at a major event in Zhuhai, China.
Hemant Joshi won the 2019 International Association of Memory (IAM) World Memory Championship title in the ‘Senior’ category with an impressive 1,800 plus points, surpassing his last year’s score by 25 per cent.
This is his second world title in a row, after winning the event in Austria last year.
“It is very heartening when your hard work gets translated into results,” said Mr Joshi.
“I am very happy with my performance and believe that I can improve my scores a lot more in future.
“But, more importantly, my proudest moment of the tournament was the one when I could hold aloft the Indian flag in the midst of global representatives.”
Mr Joshi’s memorisation statistics at the event were as follows: 1,236 binary digits (0 and 1) in 30 minutes, five packs of shuffled playing cards in 1 hour, 120 random digits in five minutes, 781 random digits in 60 minutes, 82 images in five minutes, 92 random words in the same order in 15 minutes, 32 random historical events and years in five minutes, and 29 random names and faces in 15 minutes.
The GDN reported in October that the memory athlete had won 10 gold medals and the 2019 Indian Memory Champion title in the ‘Senior’ category for the second consecutive year.
The championship was held under the aegis of the World Memory Sports Council.
