The 10th edition of the Bahrain National Arabian Horse Show will be open today at Al Raffa ground, belonging to the Bahrain Sports Military Association.
The three-day event, which concludes on Saturday, is being held as part of festivities marking Bahrain’s National Day.
The annual show will be held under the patronage of the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef) chairman Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.
The Arabian Horse Committee has co-ordinated with Breef to ensure the success of the festival, which is the first championship of the season.
Breef board member Dr Khalid Ahmed stressed the importance of this popular sport, which embodies Bahrain’s long-standing history and legacy, being one of the prime centres for purebred Arabian horses.
Dr Ahmed had chaired the meeting of the Arabian Horse Committee and ensured preparations and readiness for the four-day championship. The committee has also reviewed the programme of the championship.
A total of 116 locally-bred horses – 63 females and 53 males – will take part in the competition today and tomorrow. The national championship will be held on Saturday and Sunday, with 60 horses in the fray.
