His Majesty King Hamad last night congratulated Bahrain’s national football team on winning the 24th Gulf Cup in Qatar for the first time in history.
The King thanked the team on the historic and honourable achievement, hailing their impressive performance.
He praised the team’s high spirit and determination which enabled them to honour the homeland and lift the coveted trophy with merit.
He hailed the achievement which reflects Bahrain’s football standing in the Gulf, regional, continental and international arenas, expressing hope that the achievement would serve as a catalyst for players to look forward to more trophies in future championships.
The King thanked his representative for charity work and youth affairs, National Security Adviser and chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, hailing his dedicated and strenuous efforts to motivate and encourage the national team.
He also commended the efforts exerted by the Bahrain Football Association, chaired by Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa for the team’s good preparation.
The King praised all national efforts to support and encourage the team, hailing the administrative and technical staff.
He saluted Bahrainis and residents who supported the team during the championship and encouraged the players to win the historic title, commending the media for supporting the team.
He hailed the historic achievement which, he said, represents a crucial turning point in the march of football in Bahrain.
“The achievement attained by the Bahraini champions in this Gulf championship has brought joy to all the people of Bahrain and expatriates as well,” said the King, expressing confidence in the ability of this generation of players to continue the march of excellence and win more trophies.
He also congratulated the Saudi national team, hailing their outstanding performance and wishing them success.
The King reiterated keenness to support the youth and sports movement and develop all sports in Bahrain.
His Majesty received a cable of congratulations from His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa on the historic achievement.
The Premier said the achievement bolsters Bahrain’s standing in the regional and international arenas, paying tribute to the King for his royal support which enabled sports in Bahrain to attain advanced levels.
The Premier pledged to continue exerting all efforts to achieve the royal aspirations and promote wide-ranging development in all fields.
The King received a cable of congratulations from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
The Crown Prince took pride in the landmark victory which adds to other sporting achievements, paying tribute to the King for his royal support.
The Prime Minister and the Crown Prince exchanged congratulations on the historic win.
The Crown Prince praised the dedicated efforts of the government, chaired by the Premier, praying to Allah the Almighty to bless the Premier with abundant health and happiness and long life and Bahrain further achievements.
Shaikh Sultan bin Hamad Al Khalifa, son of the King, sent a cable of congratulations to His Majesty.
He sent similar cables to the Crown Prince, wishing the national team players further success in future championships.
Shaikh Nasser congratulated His Majesty, the Prime Minister and the Crown Prince on the win.
His Majesty’s personal representative Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa also congratulated the leaders.
