MAJOR developments are underway to speed up proceedings at Bahrain’s execution courts, it was announced.
Execution Court head Isa Al Mannai also said the number of judges at the execution courts have been increased from six to eight as part of plans to modernise the judicial system.
He was speaking at a Press conference at the Supreme Judicial Council at the Diplomatic Area yesterday, in the presence of judiciary supervision head Mohammed Al Buainain.
Mr Al Mannai pointed out that the execution courts have been divided to specialise in different court cases in addition to paying increased attention to online services.
“We are carrying out developments of the execution courts,” he said.
“In co-ordination with the Supreme Judicial Council we
will speed up court proceedings which will bring about a massive change.
“We established the electronic services in co-operation with the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry.
“We also plan to review all cases that arrive at the execution courts and divide them among specialised units.
“Now each execution court will specialise in certain fields such as real estate, labour, Sharia and administrative, among others.”
He said the increase in work load on the execution courts also meant an increase in the number of judges, from six to eight.
As part of the development, private firms will also be licensed to act as legal notaries.
Mr Al Mannai also revealed that the executions courts, which reportedly carry out 2,200 decisions daily, enforced 70 per cent of the verdicts last year.
He said the online system will reduce the number of people visiting the ministry while also speeding up the judicial process.
The GDN reported in May last year that the execution courts had enforced 98 per cent of verdicts in the first quarter.
At the time the Supreme Judicial Council said a total of 134,215 decisions were implemented, with 2,130 decisions taken daily.
In July last year, the GDN also reported that Bahrain was preparing to licence private firms to act as legal notaries.
It is part of a modernisation of the judicial system, which includes offering more services online.
