Manama: Renowned Bahraini actor Ali Al Ghurair died of a heart attack yesterday.
The 51-year-old has acted primarily in television series since 1990 during which he played such iconic roles as Tafash from the hit series Sawalif Tafash from 2009 to 2015 as well as the character Mahdi from the critically acclaimed show Sadoun.
In a career spanning 30 years, Mr Al Ghurair worked in nearly 50 television shows, five movies and 13 plays in Bahrain and the GCC.
He became one of the most prominent and beloved actors in Bahrain and was very popular especially among children for his portrayal of comic
characters.
After the news broke out on social media fans voiced their sadness and offered their condolences with many of them saying that Mr Al Ghurair had brought so much joy and laughter to people of all ages and that he would be missed.
Meanwhile, the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) said last night it would take care of the late actor’s children.
This follows directives from His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for charity work and youth affairs and RCO board of trustees chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
RCO secretary general Dr Mustafa Al Sayed conveyed Shaikh Nasser’s condolences to the family of Mr Al Ghurair and all his fans in a statement, where he indicated that the RCO has taken measures to provide the necessary care for the children of the deceased artist.
“This generous direction from His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa comes in appreciation of the great artist Ali Al Ghurair and the services he provided, bringing joy and smile throughout his artistic career,” said Dr Al Sayed.
“He had contributed to the happiness of all his viewers, as he presented fine art and creativity that was the subject of love, admiration and appreciation of all, young and old, in the artistic roles he performed which served several issues in Bahraini society,” he said.
