A NEW market will be built on a major development coming up on the northern shores of Muharraq, it has been announced.
The Suq Al Baraha will be located in the heart of the master-planned city, amongst the residential communities.
It will feature more than 470 retail stores, including shops that sell fresh produce and food items such as a fish market, fruits and vegetables market as well as a meat and poultry market.
The market will also include sections for general household goods, tailors, gold and jewellery shops along with traditional Bahraini products such as food and handicrafts.
The suq will also have restaurants, cafés, a family recreational centre, public facilities, a fuel station as well as a supermarket.
The foundation stone for the project has been laid and Almoayyed Contracting Group has been appointed to complete the development and officially launch it to the public by the end of the first quarter of 2021.
“The project will be a great and unique addition to Diyar Al Muharraq,” said Diyar Al Muharraq chief executive Ahmed Alammadi in a statement yesterday.
“The market will include a variety of shopping options serving the needs of both residents and visitors.
“The design of Suq Al Baraha will reflect the unique architectural culture of the kingdom, in line with our eagerness to establish a Bahraini identity throughout various residential and commercial projects in the city.”
He said the market will be established through the highest standards and will be launched according to a set timetable.
Diyar Al Muharraq is being developed as one of the largest integrated cities in Bahrain, with a unique blend of residential, commercial, recreational and healthcare facilities.
Aimed at creating a long-term and sustainable township, the entire development comprises seven reclaimed islands of 10sq km and a total area spanning 12sq km.
Upon completion, Diyar Al Muharraq will encompass more than 40km of waterfront with sandy beaches, and all the elements of a vibrant community ranging extensively from fully equipped educational facilities and schools, medical centres, recreation facilities, shopping malls, expansive parklands, hotels and marinas.
The GDN reported last month that the first phase of highway landscaping – including the increase in green areas within the master-planned city – had been completed.
This will offer residents and visitors extensive landscaped and park areas as part of its healthy lifestyle offering.
This initial phase includes, in addition to the landscaping, the installation of benches and waste collection bins.
It also includes a fully automated irrigation system, which preserves the green areas while eliminating the need for manual labour.
The automated irrigated system can be programmed to operate any time and only when required, as to improve the efficiency of water usage.
The Diyar Al Muharraq masterplan was designed to reduce both energy consumption and carbon emissions, while promoting the concept of sustainability by taking into account the three key elements, social, economic and environmental.
