THE Health Ministry is implementing the Healthy Cities programme in line with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) initiative towards better living, said Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh.
In a statement yesterday, she said the national project was important for the unity and national values of the country and its citizens.
“Healthy Cities is one of the most important programmes organised by WHO which aims to improve matters related to health, environment, economics and social issues in the country,” said Ms Al Saleh.
She emphasised that health must be incorporated into all policies to address diseases, especially chronic, non-communicable diseases and to achieve the sustainable development goals.
“It is also necessary to adopt the concept of responsibility of all sectors for health and the need to place health on the list of priorities of all policies in different sectors.”
Ms Al Saleh also stated that the healthy cities programme contributes to achieving most of the sustainable development goals, especially the 11th goal of making cities and communities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
