Manama: People in Bahrain have been warned of fraudulent WhatsApp messages requesting individuals to update their bank information by clicking a link.
The Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security Directorate said yesterday that these messages were scams to hack the passwords of e-banking services.
It stressed that banks will not ask for information or password through text messages. “(The directorate) warns of scam messages, including through WhatsApp application via different phone numbers,” it said in a statement.
“Those messages aim to hack the passwords of online banking, and (the directorate) asserts that banks do not ask for passwords through text messages.”
The directorate has urged the public to avoid dealing with such messages and report any incidents to its hotline, 992.
