A total of 297 fishermen have been caught illegally shrimping with a haul of 11,000 kg, revealed Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf.
He said during an open debate on fishing in parliament that figures were provided by the Coastguard following the ban on trawling in November 2018.

"Our monitoring of activities in the sea is below our expectations and we are improving as we hire more inspectors for such purpose," said Mr Khalaf.
"Fish with fins have increased by 19pc since trawling was disallowed," he added.
