Bahrain practitioner Dr Ibtissam Al Alawi has won the Arab Doctor Award.
The Salmaniya Medical Complex consultant ophthalmologist becomes the first Bahraini doctor to win the pan-Arab prize.
The award committee, an offshoot of the Arab Health Ministers’ Council, conferred the prize on Dr Al Alawi out of five nominees from Bahrain.
The panel awarded prizes to the top three winners from Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain.
The Arab Health Council will hold a meeting in Bahrain on February 26 and 27 to set a date to honour the winners.
Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh said the award recognises Dr Alawi’s competence and dedicated efforts and reflects Bahrain’s strides in the medical field.
