MANAMA: The Cabinet yesterday welcomed the extraordinary session of Arab League’s communiqué regarding its support for the Palestinian issue and adherence to peace as a strategic option for resolving the conflict.
The weekly Cabinet session, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, at Gudaibiya Palace, praised the American peace plan as a basis to return to negotiations within an international framework and expressed appreciation for the US administration and its efforts to solve the Palestinian cause.
It also welcomed every international effort aimed at achieving just peace in the occupied Palestinian territories and pushing the peace process forward to reach an agreement that would enable the brotherly Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights and set up their independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution principle, the International Legitimacy’s resolutions, the Arab Peace Process and the approved international references.
The Cabinet reiterated Bahrain’s firm support to the Palestinian issue, backing all efforts and initiatives that would lead to a just and comprehensive solution to it.
Multiple sclerosis (MS), which affects the brain and spinal cord, has been added to the list of incurable chronic diseases in Bahrain.
The Cabinet approved the move in line with a proposal submitted by the Parliament to the government.
It also referred to the legislative authority the government’s reply to a parliamentary proposal to appoint specialised doctors at health centres, said Cabinet secretary general Dr Yasser Al Nasser.
His Majesty King Hamad was congratulated on the 52nd anniversary of the Bahrain Defence Force establishment in 1968.
His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, and the BDF officers, non-commissioned officers and servicemen were also congratulated.
The progress of work on 102 development and infrastructure projects worth BD379 million came under scrutiny.
These include 20 road projects (BD171m), 53 sanitary drainage projects (BD121m), 29 construction and maintenance projects (BD86m).
A total of 89 roads, sanitary drainage and construction and maintenance projects worth BD199m were awarded in 2019. Bids have also been invited for 93 projects worth overall BD107m.
The rental disputes committee was scrapped under the amended Real Estate Tenancy Law.
The prerogatives and powers of the abolished panel have been transferred to the High Civil Court.
The amended draft tenancy law has also been referred to the legislative branch of government to be debated.
The session reviewed the progress of the implementation of four educational and service projects ordered by HRH the Prime Minister in the Muharraq Governorate and Hamad Town.
They include new schools in Qalali and Hamad Town, the restoration of schools in the Muharraq Governorate and increasing cleaning services at schools, a memorandum, submitted by the Education Minister, and referred by the Cabinet to the Ministerial Committee for Financial and Economic Affairs and Fiscal Balance, as well as to the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects, said.
