UAE: An Arab expat was fined Dh50,000 and sentenced to one year in jail for slapping a doctor at a hospital in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain.
Court records showed that the defendant claimed that the "doctor kept him waiting from 8am to 2pm for no clear reason."
The doctor was examining a patient when the defendant angrily forced his way into the consultation room.
The man became infuriated and slapped the doctor on the face when he called him out for barging in.
Hospital staff reported the assault to the police after catching the accused man.
According to a forensic report, the doctor suffered from some bruises on his neck.
Several witnesses also supported the doctor's statement.
The patient was found guilty by the UAE Misdemeanour Court and was handed a one-year jail term with a fine according to Article 249 of the federal punitive law.
