Bahrain is pushing ahead with plans to promote food security.
Deputy Premier Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday received UAE Minister of State for Food Security Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Al Muhairi and stressed the importance of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two sides to promote food security, in line with the King’s directives.
He stressed the support of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.
He underlined Bahrain’s keenness to implement strategic national food production project, including the allocation of multiple
sites for fish farming and plant production, with the aim of developing national capacities in the field of food industries and raising the proportion of local production.
He noted that UAE-Bahraini partnership in food security adds a new dimension and a vital field for the existing bilateral co-operation, thanks to the keenness and interest of the leaderships of both countries.
Ms Al Muhairi affirmed Bahrain’s advanced status in the field of plant and animal production. She stressed the importance of joint training programmes aimed at preparing national cadres specialised in the field of food security.
Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf also met Ms Al Muhairi.
Mr Khalaf stressed Bahrain’s drive to build its food security, citing the King’s directives, at the opening of the second session of the fifth legislative term, to draw up a national food production strategy.
