Manama: A car in the Salmaniya Medical Complex's (SMC) car park caught fire as a patient left his car improperly parked outside the hereditary diseases unit.
Two cars parked nearby also caught fire, around 5.45pm.
SMC security and safety head Khalid Al Moraisil said fire extinguishers were used to put out the fire, which occurred during peak visiting hours.
CID is investigating the fire with sources saying that it was caused by children left behind in the car.
No injuries or major damages were reported.
The Interior Ministry last night confirmed that the fire was caused by two children, aged four and six, who were playing with a lighter left behind by their father as he left for treatment.
"The children were moved to safety before the fire could spread," it said.
