BAHRAIN women athletes continued their impressive performance in the Fifth Arab Women Clubs Games in Sharjah yesterday claiming six more medals - three gold, one silver and two bronze - on the final day of athletics competitions.
The Al Ahli Athletics Club’s athletes swelled the Bahrain medal tally to 42 – 18 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze.
The club claimed 18 medals in all – 13 gold, four silver and one bronze.
Marta Hirpato grabbed the gold in the 3000m beating Marwa Abdulraheem of Sharjah Women’s Club.
In the shot putt finals, Noora Jassim won gold with a distance of 16.13m, beating Fatima Al Hassooni of Sharjah Women’s Club, who finished second with a distance of 11.23m, followed by Kuwati Shaikha Khalid Al Sakhan (10.42m).
The Bahraini team also clinched the 4X400m relay title through Iman Isa, Marta Hirpato and Manal Al Bahrawi. UAE were second and Kuwait third.
Grabbed
In the fencing competitions, Al Hala Fencing Club won two bronze. On Sunday, the club had grabbed three bronze in the individual competitions through Laila Fardeen Hassan, Somaya Abdulrahman Al Buainain and Maram Mohammed Shareef.
Riffa basketball team bowed out of the competition losing 77-96 to Tunisia’s Al Amal team on Sunday while Al Ahli volley ball club lost to Egypt’s Sporting Club (25-5, 25-8, 25-10). Al Ahli will take on UAE’s Al Wasl today at 10am Bahrain time in a classification match.
