Manama: Bahrain-based Asry, a leading regional ship and rig repair yard, has entered into a specialised services agreement with Gulf Turbo, which will see the latter set up a permanent presence at the yard.
The deal is under the ambit of the ongoing Project Jupiter – an initiative to make the yard the leading hub of on-site specialist contractors in the Gulf.
Gulf Turbo is a specialist in the repair and reconditioning of all models and types of turbochargers with strategic offices in Singapore, the UAE, Oman and Bahrain.
The company said it will increase its regional footprint by establishing a service station in Asry, which is equipped with the latest technology required for overhaul, balancing, re-blading and repair of all types of turbochargers.
Asry chief executive Nils Kristian Berge said agreements that the yard signs with specialists such as Gulf Turbo are aimed at bringing direct benefits such as technical expertise and authorised warranties to customers.
Gulf Turbo founding partner Rehan M Karanjia and managing director Easwaran Iyer were present during the signing ceremony.
“Gulf Turbo is an ISO certified company and is the authorised repair agent for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for MET turbochargers,” said Mr Karanjia.
“Our engineers and technicians are trained in Germany, South Korea and Japan and formerly worked with the turbocharger makers.
“Gulf Turbo’s services and spare parts carry the same period of warranty as offered by the turbocharger makers.”
According to Asry’s procurement and contracts general manager Magdy Moustafa with the Gulf Turbo Service Station, the yard is now hosting three major turbocharger makers – ABB, MAN and MET – and their authorised repair centres.
“We are sure that this will enhance Asry’s image in the ship repair and offshore repair markets,” he added.
