Bahrain: The Lower Criminal Court has sentenced a Bahraini MP, Khaled Al Shaer, to six months in prison and ordered him to be released on BD600 bail for publishing indecent photos of his ex-wife and insulting her and her son from a previous marriage.
He was also handed a three-month jail term and fined BD100 in another case in which he and his ex-wife were accused of assaulting each other.
He was also accused of stealing three watches worth BD3,400 and amber prayer beads from his ex-wife and insulting her and her mother.
He and his ex-wife were fined BD100 each. He was also fined BD50 for insulting her mother. Earlier, he was accused of using a firearm to threaten others, deliberate damage, causing bodily injuries to others and misusing communication devices. However, he cannot be arrested to serve his jail sentence unless parliament sacks him, meaning his immunity is lifted.
Sources said the Public Prosecution will seek parliament’s approval to lift his immunity.
