THE BRAVE CF flyweight bout that will decide the first-ever world champion up to 57kg in the world’s fastest-growing MMA promotion is set to be one of the most exciting.
Brave CF officials last night confirmed that Jose “Shorty” Torres will face Matheus Nicolau in the quarter-finals.
Brave CF officials later last night also confirmed that a match between Marcel Adur and Malcom Gordon will also be featured in the first round of the contest that will decide the promotion’s very first world champion up to 57kg.
The match between Torres and Nicolau, two UFC veterans with tons of international experience, will be held during Brave CF’s next event in Brazil on March 25 in Balneário Camburiú, state of Santa Catarina.
It gives Nicolau the home-field advantage.
A long-time Brave CF veteran Adur is going to his sixth appearance under the Bahrain-based banner. With a professional record of 15 wins and only five losses, Adur won four out of his five last bouts, including three TKOs.
With the flyweight tournament Adur will have his third shot at the Brave CF flyweight title, with the Brazilian having being denied the first two due to events beyond his control.
In 2018, the match against Velimurad Alkhasov ended up not being valid for the title after the Russian failed to make the weight and in 2019 the fight against Jose “Shorty” Torres was canceled last-minute after the American pulled from the card during the fight week.
Ranked No. 1 in the flyweight division in Canada, Gordon is set to make his Brave CF debut against Adur.
The 29-year-old Calgary-born holds a professional record of 12 wins and three losses and is currently on a four-win streak - all of them via knockout or submission.
With 10 professional fights under his belt, Torres has nine wins and only one loss. In his last appearance, last April, Torres beat Amir Albazi via unanimous decision in Jordan.
The two-time IMMAF Amateur World Champion was supposed to fight for the Brave title in Bahrain six months later, but ended up withdrawing less than a week prior to the fight due to personal issues.
A veteran of the reality show The Ultimate Fighter Brazil season 4, Nicolau boasts a professional record of 14 wins, two losses, and one draw.
The Brazilian made his Brave debut last August with a win against his fellow-countryman Felipe Efrain in a bantamweight bout. Nicolau now moves down to his original division, up to 57kg, aiming to capture Brave’s inaugural world title.
