AL Hidd registered their fifth straight victory and extended the lead in the Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League beating Al Ahli 1-0 at Al Ahli stadium in Zinj yesterday.
In other matches yesterday, Muharraq edged Al Shabab 1-0, Riffa got the better of Al Hala 3-2, Al Najma saw off Busaiteen 2-0 and Manama and East Riffa played out a goalless draw.
Abdulla Janahi scored for Al Hidd in the 20th minute and they managed to hold on to the one-goal lead at half-time.
They could have extended the lead in the second-half had they converted a penalty shot just one minute before the end of regular time.
The match between Muharraq and Al Shabab seemed to head nowhere as neither could find the net in the first-half.
Muharraq had to wait until the 55th minute for Everton to score the lone goal of the match.
The most entertaining match of the evening was played by Al Hala and Riffa who scored five goals between them.
Al Hala struck quite early in the match to take the lead in the 10th minute. Riffa’s equaliser came four minutes later and they went ahead in the 28th minute to lead 2-1 at half-time. Al Hala, however, came back into the match with a goal in the 69thminute and almost ensured a draw as both teams failed to score before additional time.
After enduring some tense moments, Riffa pulled off a thrilling victory by scoring in injury time.
The key moments in the match between Al Najma and Busaiteen came just before the stroke of half-time when the former scored twice in quick succession.
After yesterday’s victory, Muharraq have extended their winning run to six, continuing a perfect record so far in the year. They had defeated Busaiteen 2-1 in last Monday’s encounter.
Al Hidd had defeated Al Shabab 2-1 in their previous Premier League clash on Monday. Prior to that match, they defeated Busaiteen, Al Shabab and Al Hala to maintain a remarkable winning streak.
However, Hidd, who have collected 28 points so far to lead the standings, will have to continue the victory march to ensure they stay on top as Muharraq are breathing down their neck with 25 points and one match in hand.
Muharraq are scheduled to take on Riffa on Tuesday at 6.30pm at the Muharraq stadium.
