Ensuring Bahrain’s food stocks during the coronavirus crisis headed the agenda yesterday when Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani chaired an expanded meeting with members of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and representatives of the main food companies in the kingdom.
The meeting focused on the status of food stocks, and the importance of their continuous availability, in view of the global developments of the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
The minister stressed the need for co-operation and coordination among all parties concerned, as well as for unified efforts to ensure the continuity of the economic development process in the kingdom, and the provision of sufficient food stocks for a period of not less than six months.
Mr Alzayani underlined the keenness of the government and the ministry to put in place all mechanisms and measures to prevent any shortage in the local market, emphasising the need for concerted efforts by all parties concerned to contain any repercussions of this global challenge naturally and smoothly.
He praised the dedicated national efforts by relevant authorities to achieve the kingdom’s interests.
The meeting discussed various proposals by the representatives of food companies.
The minister instructed a specialised team to step up co-operation with food merchants to ensure the continuous provision of basic commodities to consumers for the next six months, easily and smoothly.
He said that an e-mail (stockpile@moic.gov.bh) has been allocated to all food merchants to contact the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry should they need any assistance.
