TEACHERS are not sitting idle in schools while classes remain suspended until further notice over coronavirus fears, Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi told MPs yesterday.
He said comments by MP Ammar Qambar that he was painting a rosy picture was misguided and devalued the work of teachers who were providing e-learning.
“The ministry hasn’t stopped working under the circumstances and teachers are providing cyber education starting from morning until midnight daily,” said Dr Al Nuaimi.
“Teachers are working to ensure there are no gaps in lessons and deserve praise for what they are doing.
“There are 372 books, 1,800 explanatory materials and mock exams on our portal with more set to be uploaded.
“Parents are complaining about not having enough computers or electronic devices at home and some have had to incur additional expenses but we are working to support them.”
He said education was not facing hurdles and there were plans to have new schools built according to future needs from 2020 and 2030, which MPs have had a look at.
Separately, the minister pointed out that 74.12 per cent of Bahrain Training Institute graduates found jobs last year.
