FIVE feature events in a card of eight are the highlights of today’s horse racing in Sakhir.
The richest race of the day is for the Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) Cup which carries a cash prize of BD5,000 and to be run over 2,000 metres, starting at 5.25pm.
Sabreena, owned by Victorious, trained by Fawzi Nass and ridden by Hussain Makki, is the favourite to win the Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for locally bred horses carrying a cash prize of BD2,000 and to be run over 1,800 metres, starting at 5pm.
News Breaker and Dushanbe are the second and third favourites respectively.
The race for the Shaikh Sultan bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup, carrying a cash prize of BD3,000 and to be run over 1,200 metres straight, starting at 4.35pm, has attracted the biggest field of 15 horses.
Dirab, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, trained by James Naylor and to be ridden by Abdulla Faisal, is tipped to win the Shaikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for locally bred horses carrying a cash prize of BD2,000 and to be run over 1,600 metres, starting at 3.20pm.
Waseela and Kailash are the second and third favourites respectively.
Al Saqlawy 1757, owned by Safra, trained by Alan Smith and to be ridden by Gerald Mosse, is the best bet to win the Shaikh Sultan bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for Arabian horses carrying a cash prize of BD2,000 and to be run over 1,000 metres straight, starting at 2.30pm.
Kuheilan Umm Zorayr 1766 and Tuwaisan 1762 are the second and third favourites respectively.
There are three support races as well carrying a cash prize of BD2,000 each.
