A DRUNKEN motorist has been jailed for three years for attacking a policeman and biting off a piece of his flesh.
The 46-year-old Bahraini, who led police on a high-speed chase across a populated village, has also been found guilty of assault, reckless driving and speeding under the influence of alcohol.
The defendant was drunk when he was spotted weaving his way through traffic in a white Toyota pickup in A’ali on December 4 last year at 11.30pm.
He also smashed into a number of vehicles and assaulted police officers when they tried to approach him on foot.
A policeman, who took the stand previously at the High Criminal Court, showed the injuries he said he had suffered on his right arm.
However, the defendant claimed he was not aware he was being chased by policemen, adding that he was only acting in self defence.
He previously claimed that a “false case” had been filed against him.
However, he was found guilty of the charges due to the evidence presented against him.
“The defendant on December 4, 2019 drank alcohol and was under the influence when he drove his car in an abnormal and reckless way,” read the court ruling.
“He put the other motorists’ lives at risks and caused car accidents.
“Policemen in a civilian vehicle spotted him and warned him against his reckless driving. However, he flicked a lit cigarette at their vehicle and led them on a chase.
“They then approached him a second time and he abandoned his vehicle and ran on foot.
“He assaulted policemen, pushed one of them against a wall and bit him in his hand.
“The defendant was found guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence against him.”
