A MAN allegedly robbed a cold store at knife-point and then went to buy alcoholic beverages, a court heard.
The 34-year-old Bahraini is accused of theft and assault at the High Criminal Court where he appeared for his first hearing and denied the charges.
He is said to have worn a mask and gloves before storming into the cold store in Manama on January 28.
He allegedly held an Indian employee at the cold store at knife-point and ordered him to give him all the money from the cash register. He initially fled with BD75 and spent it in a bar to buy alcoholic drinks, before being arrested.
The defendant earlier told prosecutors he carried out the robbery after being drunk and using Lyrica prescription pills which are used to treat epilepsy, neuropathic pain and anxiety disorder.
He said he wanted to get more drunk but did not have enough money, so he thought of robbing the cold store.
The victim described how he feared for his life when the defendant held him at knife-point. “I thought I was going to die,” the 36-year-old told prosecutors.”
The trial has been adjourned until April 23 for review.
