AROUND 30 per cent of the 63 Bahrainis who were evacuated from Iran have tested positive for Covid-19.
This was revealed last night by Covid-19 Task Force head Dr Jameela Salman, who said the Bahrainis who returned on Wednesday night are receiving treatment at dedicated isolation centres, while the rest have been placed in quarantine facilities.
“The test results of the second batch of 63 Bahrainis who came back from Iran showed 30pc as active or positive for Covid-19,” she said during a Press conference held last night.
“They are receiving treatment at isolation facilities, while the others are in quarantine facilities.”
Flight
The GDN reported yesterday that the group, who were stranded in Iran since the Covid-19 outbreak, arrived from Mashhad on board a chartered flight arranged by the Health Ministry as part of its International Covid-19 Repatriation Programme (ICRP).
They have been stuck in the Iranian city after Bahrain imposed travel restrictions as part of preventive measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
They had travelled to Iran in early February as part of groups operated by local religious tour agents.
Two previously scheduled flights to bring back this group were postponed due to logistical reasons.
There are reportedly around 1,200 Bahrainis still in Iran.
