PROCEDURES for importing, licensing and registering medicines and healthcare products in Bahrain have been eased, announced a top official.
National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) chief executive Dr Mariam Al Jalahma said this was done to help combat the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) in the kingdom.
The new measures will be implemented without affecting the quality of the medicines, to ensure the safety of people, she added.
“The NHRA has taken several measures to ease the importing, licensing and registering of medicines and healthcare items into the country,” said Dr Al Jalahma in a statement yesterday.
“All temporarily approved requests of medicines have been given an additional year to be imported into the country.
“In addition, medicines not yet registered and needed to be imported will be allowed to be brought in for the time being.”
The validity of all requests that have expired will be extended by another year, while documents and quality certificates needed to approve medical devices will be waived so that such equipment can be easily imported.
Quality
“However, all those importing have to ensure the high quality of the products to guarantee the safety of the people,” said Dr Al Jalahma.
