Istanbul: The Crown Prince yesterday emphasised the vital role unity and co-operation play in confronting the challenges currently faced by the Muslim world.

He also stressed the collective commitment to spreading true Islamic principles of peace and tolerance.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, was representing His Majesty King Hamad at the opening session of the 13th Islamic Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Crown Prince said the OIC is a unique and important forum for the world’s Muslim nations to come together and address common challenges.

He underlined the instrumental role His Majesty has played in supporting diversity and reinforcing unity amongst Bahraini society.

The Crown Prince also praised His Majesty’s pioneering role in supporting initiatives that reinforce religious and cultural respect, which reflect the kingdom’s awareness of the dangers of intolerance, exclusion and extremism.

Turning to the OIC summit, the Crown Prince welcomed the Summit’s highly relevant topics of discussion, saying that the agenda underscores the significant political and economic challenges facing Muslims in the Middle East and around the world, and that the role of the OIC has never been more important to these efforts.

He noted the specific theme of the summit, “Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Peace”, which, he said, represents a powerful statement of Islamic nations’ collective commitment to spreading the true Islamic values of justice and peace.
