MORE than 240 Covid-19 patients in Bahrain recovered and left treatment and isolation facilities yesterday.
In addition, 36 new cases were registered, taking the total number of active cases to 976 – of whom two remain in critical condition.
“An additional 242 more Covid-19 patients have recovered and left treatment and isolation facilities,” said the Health Ministry.
“This brings the total number of recoveries to 1,026.”
However, the ministry did not give details of the new cases.
Bahrain has so far recorded 2,009 cases including seven deaths, all citizens with underlying health conditions.
The total number of people tested is 96,521.
Meanwhile, yet another group of Bahrainis arrived from Iran yesterday as part of the government’s International Covid-19 Repatriation Programme (ICRP).
“A Gulf Air-operated repatriation flight has arrived in Bahrain from Iran,” said the ministry.
“The flight followed all preventive medical protocols.”
Another flight is scheduled to arrive today.
The GDN yesterday reported that around 600 Bahrainis are brought home every week under the ICRP.
These people are among the 1,630 citizens stranded in Iran since the outbreak of Covid-19.
The government last month had announced a detailed two-month evacuation plan to bring back 3,027 Bahrainis stranded around the world due to the pandemic.
Eleven out of the 18 flights designated to bring back 1,630 Bahrainis in Iran have arrived, while the remaining are scheduled until May 28.
Direct flight arrangements for the others have been made with Gulf Air depending on available destinations and accessibility.
The government also revealed that 3,027 out of the 43,699 Bahrainis currently living, working, studying and stranded abroad have expressed their desire to return to Bahrain and have registered with the government’s ICRP.
