The media community in Bahrain has mourned the passing away of distinguished radio and television producer and presenter and assistant media professor Dr Awad Hashem.
A teacher at the College of Arts at the University of Bahrain, Dr Hashem, 66, passed away on Thursday morning his family said and was buried in Riffa.
Dr Hashem was actively involved in the Bahraini and international media. He had significant contributions, preparing and presenting hundreds of radio programmes and TV shows at the Ministry of Information Affairs. For years, he played a major role in radio and television news broadcasts.
As assistant professor at the University of Bahrain since 1999, he has contributed to the training of a large number of media students and professionals in Bahrain and abroad. He won many local and Arab awards in radio and television production. Those who knew him praised his remarkable knowledge, his forceful personality and his gracious manners.
Dr Hashem was widely applauded for the numerous studies and research in scientific journals as well as for his books and articles onn media and communication. He regularly featured on judges' panels of media competitions and awards.
He is survived by four daughters and two sons. His daughter Duaa is in charge of Bahrain TV International and the head of News in English at Bahrain Radio and Television.
