As anticipated, the holy month of Ramadan with a whole host of blessings has arrived to hold in the arms of Muslims around the world as their worthy guest. But, Muslims are feeling sad for their inability to welcome Ramadan to their masjids with awesome spirit due to the global pandemic. However, the houses of believers will be blessed with congregational prayers, recitation of the Quran and Taraweeh prayers (additional prayers performed by Muslims at night after Isha prayers during Ramadan) accompanied by the household. Their prayers will definitely include saving the entire world from the clutches of the viral disease. It will be the best time to pray Almighty Allah to save the entire humanity from the pandemic.
As Ramadan appears, the hearts of Muslims are getting more vigorous than the other months in performing their religious activities. Among them is the practice of reading the Quran alpha and omega several times which yields spiritual satisfaction. Those who can dip into the Quran while reading can understand that it teaches all necessary factors like patience, tolerance, purity, sanctity and piety.
Again, Ramadan fills the hearts of Muslims with several historical events which occurred during the month. The most important among them is the beginning of Revelation of the Quran. Allah says: “Ramadan is the month in which was sent down the Quran as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgement (between right and wrong). So, every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting.” (2:185)
Thus, fasting in Ramadan was laid down by Allah in memory of the Revelation of the Quran. In another verse Allah says that fasting was made a compulsory act for every Muslim. “O you believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you that may become the pious.” (2:183)
The above verse underscores the development of Taqwa or Pity to Allah is the object of fasting which would bring believers near to their Lord, Allah. But to achieve this godliness status, a great struggle against the lower desires is required. Desires will be reflected through sense organs like eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin. The tongue, which is the most important sense organ, finds pleasure in speaking ill of others, which would negate the effects of all his worships including fasting. Here should be the worth of a true believer. Such a believer cannot but comply with the following words of the Prophet (S) lest, he knows, his fasting will become null and void. The Prophet (S) said: “Whoever does not give up lying speech (false statements and acting on those lies and evil actions) Allah is not in need of his leaving food and drink) ie, Allah will not accept his fasting.” (Bukhari)
Most of the problems that human beings experience in their lives are connected to the lack of will power because of which man is inclined to do all kinds of evils. But, fasting set it on the correct path. Here is where the remark of the Prophet (S) becomes substantial. He said: “FASTING IS A SHIELD”. Yes, it is a shield against the “hell fire”. But not all can transform fasting into a shield. Allah says: “And for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lor’s (Tribunal) and had restrained (their souls) from lower desires, their Abode will be the Garden.” (79:40-41)
In conclusion, Ramadan is the best period for gaining all necessary virtuous qualities like patience, tolerance, purity, sanctity and piety which abandon all that vandalises the souls of man and the result would be a blissful life in Paradise by the grace of Allah the Almighty.
