AN Asian man has been jailed for six months for defaming a certain sect after accusing them of spreading the coronavirus.
The defendant was arrested after he insulted the sect on social media after claiming they spread the Covid-19 disease and labelled them as terrorists. He was jailed for six months by the Lower Criminal Court yesterday.
The defendant will be deported after completing his sentence.
“The defendant was found guilty of defaming a certain sect following sufficient evidence against him,” read the court ruling.
“He posted defamatory remarks on his social media account and insulted the certain sect by calling them terrorists and accused them of spreading the coronavirus.”
